What happens when digital snapshots escape the endless scroll of a smartphone and land on gallery walls? For a group of emerging Filipino creatives in Manila, that transition marked the beginning of their journey as exhibiting artists.
At the INKredible First Show: “Wandering Souls”—powered by HP and led by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Geloy Concepcion—aspiring photographers gathered at the historic First United Building in Escolta to experience the tangible power of print.

Designed to bridge the gap between digital content creation and physical art, the event gave new creators the tools, mentorship, and venue needed to stage their very first photography exhibition.
Turning Everyday Observations into Fine Art

The exhibition centered around a deeply reflective theme: “Wandering Souls”. Prompted by the question, “Where do the remnants of our past go when life moves on?”, participants used their smartphones to document the overlooked textures, historic architecture, and quiet corners of Escolta.
Instead of chasing grand landscapes, the photowalk focused on still-life and street photography, encouraging creators to find stories in everyday objects.
- Mentorship by Geloy Concepcion: Concepcion kicked off the workshop by sharing his own creative philosophy, reminding participants that profound stories often hide in plain sight.
- Peer Collaboration: Working in pairs, participants reviewed, critiqued, and curated their best shots.
- Personalized Narrative: Every displayed photograph was accompanied by a handwritten personal note, giving viewers an intimate look into the creator’s mindset.
“You don’t always need to look for something extraordinary. Sometimes, an ordinary object or a quiet corner makes you stop because it reminds you of something,” shared Geloy Concepcion. “Printing the photograph and putting it on a wall gives that small observation a chance to connect with someone else.”
The HP Print Bar: Bridging Digital Capture and Physical Print

After the photowalk, participants use HP Smart Tank printers through the HP app to print their photographs for the HP INKredible First Show exhibit, showcasing how HP printing technology transforms digital images into physical prints ready for display.
A core pillar of the HP INKredible Learning Day series is a simple, empowering premise: If you can shoot it, you can print it.
At the pop-up HP Print Bar, participants brought their digital vision to life using HP Smart Tank printers. Utilizing high-quality color reproduction and borderless printing features, creators prepared their pieces for exhibition quality. Equipped with refillable ink systems, the printers offered a cost-effective, practical workflow for high-volume artistic output.
Participants managed every stage of the gallery-curation process themselves—from selecting a single frame and formatting layouts to mounting prints, writing nameplates, and printing certificates of authenticity.
Why Print Matters in the Age of AI and Digital Noise

Trish Alonzo-Manabat, Home Printing Category Manager, HP Philippines, delivers the opening remarks, highlighting HP’s support for the creative community by providing emerging photographers with the opportunity to showcase their work and bring their creativity to life through HP Smart Tank printing technology.
In an era saturated by fleeting social media algorithms and AI-generated imagery, physical photography offers a grounding counter-narrative.
- Tangible Ownership: Holding a physical print changes an artist’s relationship with their own work, building creative confidence and professional validation.
- Community Connection: Printed exhibitions invite slow, intentional viewing, sparking genuine face-to-face conversations among creators and audiences.
- Empowering New Voices: By lowering the technical and financial barriers to fine-art printing, initiatives like First Show democratize access to the gallery space.
“Seeing your photograph in print can change how you regard your own work. You can hold it, look closely at its details, and share it with someone standing beside you,” said Trish Alonzo-Manabat, Home Printing Category Manager, HP Philippines. “Through First Show, we want to help emerging photographers take that step with confidence.”
